PC for general use plus recording a "quiet" professional as possible end product

I have a Dell 4400 with: 256mbRAM; 40gig HD; 1.7ghz and a CD burner. Is my Dell powerful enough to record without clics and pops etc. plus use it for general use on the internet with my Norton Antivirus etc?? I can't afford to own a dedicated computer. At last resort I'll cancel my ISP subscription, Norton, etc. and for a few weeks dedicate my Dell entirely to recording a master CD of my solo acoustic piano music, if necessary. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

ya, thats plenty big enough, just get a sound card better than the stock Dell card (probably a Sound Blaster of some sort) and just turn of Norton and all that junk while you are recording...no problem...
