Newbie with Aardvark/Cubase vst routing prob

Hi there,

I've been checking out several threads regarding Aardvark soundcards but I haven't found a solution to my problem. And as there seem to be several Aardvark or Cubase users on here I hope someone can help me out!

I'm trying to designate one channel/recorded track in Cubase to an Aardvark Q10 output, as I want to use some good old fashioned analog effects on an already recorded guitar part. But i can't get it to work. When I select 'analog 3' on an output on the Q10 it doesn't correspond to channel 3 in Cubase.

So, how do I get channel 3 in Cubase routed to a Q10 output?

Any help is welcome!

Cheers,

Walter, Amsterdam, Netherlands

I don't know what you have to work with for a software mixer in the Q10, but, Cubase uses ASIO and that's the same everywhere... sort of. If you send your guitar part to a "Bus" in Cubase (open your Master Mixer Panel) and assign say ASIO 29-30 to that (the Master probably uses 31-32). In other words, do not route your guitar track to the Master output. Then, somewhere in your Q10 software mixer, assign that 29-30 ASIO to your Q10 physical Out. Go to your outboard effects, and return that to a Q10 input. Assign that an unused ASIO pair (5-6?) and record the incoming signal in Cubase on a "blank" track.

in cubase go to Devices > VST connections > inputs.....make sure you have all 10 inputs showing up on the list....if not, right click and insert it.

now go to outputs, and do the same thing...you should have 8 channels and a stereo SPDIF...

now in cubase route the tracks output to the corresponding output on the aardvark...then you have to plug the output of your effects, into another input on the q-10...
out
so your signal goes Cubase Cannel 3 > to the FX then the output of the fx go to any available input you have in cubase....

make sense?

Many thanks jmail and whosyourdaddy! I'm going to have a go at it and I'll let you know if I figured it out.

Cheers!

Ah, I had this problem. If you have stereo busses and mono tracks you'll have to pan the tracks left and right like on an analog console to get them coming out of their own bus.

I was using cubase SL 1.06, and that had only stereo busses. Now I've got SX 3, and you can create mono busses with it. Its great.

I'm tired, hope that made sense.
