Sync problem when multi tracking

I could do with some help! Running Amd 1.0 gig processor, 512 mhz ram, 20 gig HD. Soundblaster audigy soundcard. Use external mixer to feed line in on sound card and line out back to mixer for monitoring when multitracking. Lay down backing track with no problem but after adding for example a vocal track and then playing it back it is out of sync. I have tried different configurations with the connections to the mixer but with no success. I didn't have this problem with the on board audio card ac97 which I've since disconnected in the Bios. I upgraded to the Audigy as the AC97 kept locking up. The PC no longer hangs but I have this sync problem. It's the same with either Cool Edit or Cubasis. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks John

Well Cool Edit (at least V2+) has an option under multi-track settings for Correct Start Sync and also one for Correct for drift. The Start Sync on should definitley be checked for the Audigy. There is also a setting under the Device properties in CEP for specifying a time compensation for recording. The help file tells you how to arrive at the milli-seconds to enter there if neccessary. I don't have Cubasis so I don't know if it has similar options or not.

I agree w/ old dog, a while back I remember, I was recording out of my Layla 20 at the time and for some reason it would record on sync fine w/ the playback, but as soon as I pressed stop recording, the waveform would adjust and move itself very slightly so that the tracks became out of sync.

This was remedied by Correct for drift.

Thanks for the extra confirmation Stupe, I didn't get a chance to try it last night. As soon as I do I'll post the result. Cheers, John

Hi guys, I checked both the drift and start sync boxes in Cool Edit and that has done the trick. Thanks a lot, I can now get down to some recording.

I dealt with audigy's having latency/out of sync issues. 3 of them to be exact. but EMU cards which are also Creative labs work great with 0 problems
