Sound card buffer size in Cubase

Hi all! I'm fairly new to home recording and just have a quick question about buffer size. I have a little bit of latency on my card (SW1000XG), only about 18ms so not too bad, but I've been trying to do something about it. Now, after reading various posts here and elsewhere, I reckon smaller sound card buffer size should lower my latency. Here's the problem; I've set the buffer size (in Cubase SX2) down to minimum, which is 512, but I've seen in some posts that people use even lower buffers (128 etc). Does anyone know why I can't go lower the 512? Is this some limitation in Cubase, or my sound card or what?

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers,
Bjorn

PS: As this is my first post here, Hello everyone! :-)
