Mixing Drums

I've been doing a bit research about drum recording and mixing lately, but I thought I'd ask the opinions of the HRC posse as well. What are some of the EQ settings/ effects you all use for snare, kick, hats etc.?

i doubble my kick and snare tracks....compress and trim the highs (my "phat" track) and an uncompress with the lows shaved for smack and clarity.

i gave up my hi hat track the overheads did just fine.

one trick i do is send all the drums to an aux with reverb, then i compress the reverb so it breathes with the drums.

different recording environments can cause for different EQ and settings so the best is if you do it by ear. As for processing, I always put a lot of compression on my drums to get that "loud in your head" but still quiet in the mix sound. As far as panning, I usually pan my overheads far R/L, snare in center, floor toms to 40% Right. I also don't use a mic for hi hat. Especially because I record in a small room.

I try to get it right on the way in sound-wise, get what i want to hear. I tend to roll off the snare around 120Hz, kick at 50-80Hz, compress the kick and the snare (but only a little). I've been known to add a little overdrive to things too to excite the sound a little. I don't do any of this as a matter of course though, always listen first.

sometimes (depends on the snare,) but for me sometimes when I want a really PHAT Rock snare

I just LIMIT the hell out of it... then it's like a shotgun... but still a hardrockin' snare

doesn't work for all songs/ or kits though
