dB i know you own this bad boy and i've read many threads about you drilling the importance of compressing signals. So i figured if this ones good enough for YOU it'll be more than enough for ME. QUESTIONS: how's the gate quality on this one? Do i really need a limiter? or should i go Compressor/limiter unit with an external gate?

Aug 11, 2005 02:57 pm Well, to be honest, I don't use the gate much at all so I can't really say much about it. I never like limiters much...I'd rather just crank up the ratio of compression to limit...
and actually, I always forget this, but I have the dbx266, not the 266XL...not sure what the differences are, I have had mine for over 10 years though, I know that...and still works fine.
Aug 11, 2005 05:47 pm I have the dbx266xl and I agree with dB. I rarely use the gate, and I crank the heck out of the compression. This is a great compressor for crushing vocals. I use it for bass as well and have had great results with that too.
Aug 11, 2005 05:54 pm i just had three 266's come in...i'm thinkin' about pickin' up one....guy only wants 50 bucks for it....they look a bit dirty though, so i donno.
Aug 11, 2005 06:01 pm I love dbx. they hold up really well and they sound great. I had a Joe Meeks Compressor/Limiter for a while, but sadly, I sold it. :-( Depending on the shape of those 266's, $50 is a steal!
