how to record midi in mono??

Hi, I need help with my midi recording. What I need is to have just one voice in one track. What is happening to me is that some of the tones are overlaping each other. This is caused by playing on keyboard. I know you can solve this by using Quantize function. But finding these overlaping notes is kind of annoying things. I think the best solution is to record just mono signal from keyboard so the next tone will automaticly stop the previous. Unfortunately I don´t have keyboard with mono function. Does anybody know about some kind of mono filter or soft which can do this????
Spending time on finding these little overlaping tones is driving me crazy. Please help...

set your polyphony in your keyboards global or patch settings to 1...that'll do what you need.

Yeah, the polyphony setting is the one that controls how many "voices" you can have going at once. Set it to one, and only one note will play at a time. But sometimes, if the notes overlap you will get a wierd slide effect (depending on the instrument/synth voice), kinda like those old dr dre synths.

that would be the portamento setting, which you should be able to change aswell.

Yeah, this would be the easiest way how to do this but my keyboard doesn´t have polyphony control. So I need to do this somehow in computer with some kind of filter or something. Anybody knows some kind of software which can help???

I am using Yamaha Portasound PSS-480 which is kind of old keyboard and the polyphony cannot be reduced on it. I´m recording to Cakewalk Sonar.

Maybe there's something in sonar that can control the polyphony. I'm not familiar with Sonar though, unfortunately.

nahh, not if you're using the sounds from the Yamaha, you're stuck with whatcha got....maybe try triggering a different VST synth, and finding a similar sound.

Hey guys, are we talking about same thing??
What I need is a some kind of program which can reduce the polyphony?? Does anybody know if this program exists? It should be a simple little program. Just tell me a name. That´s what I need. I was searching the net with keyword
"midi mono filter" or similar but unsuccessfuly.
But it has to be somewhere. AGHHHRRRR

rion003, if your still in need of figuring this out let me know.

I would ask a couple questions first though. How exactly are you recording the keyboard?

Are you using the sounds from the PSR?

Also, are you running both a midi in and out to the keyboard?
