put the mic in backwards...yep...i said it...put the mic about 6 inches into the drum or so...BUT instead of pointing the silver-mesh grill at the beater head....point the black plastic grill at it...go ahead...try it...im not gonna go on and on with the reasons why this works...but just do it...
(and then obviously move it to taste...)

Jul 22, 2005 02:00 pm i've heard about that, but i havn't tried it yet....was it you who was talkin' about that earlier?
Jul 22, 2005 04:09 pm may have...i talk about it all the time...whenever one is mentioned i always bring it up...
it happened like this...i was getting pretty pi#$ed that the kick sound we were getting was deplorable...we had it tuned so perfectly...sounding like heaven, but the recorded signal sounded like trash...so i got upset and frustrated and said" ...ya know what? ive tried everything i know of and i cant get it to sound good...Brad (keyboard player), go in there and do something with the mic, i dont care what, just move it or do something..."
and the rest was history...because thats exactly what he did and it sounded awesome...i mean...AWESOME, ive used it on every kick track done since then on that glorious day 3 months ago...

Jul 25, 2005 07:42 pm Cakewalk SONAR 2 and above have a built in way to do it that Noise told me about, it's called "extract timing" it takes a volume thresh hold and every time a signal exceeds it it will write a midi note... great for replacing kick and snare... so essentially you can just build a bunch of piezeo transducers and tape them to the shell and record the signal and convert it to a pleasent sound later :)
Jul 25, 2005 09:15 pm i wish nuendo had a function similar to that...
Jul 26, 2005 11:39 am Drumagog is a plugin that'll do just that in real time.
Jul 26, 2005 12:46 pm im a poor SOB...and i refuse to steal software...you can get into some huge trouble for that...especially having bands come in and out of your studio all the time...BAD NEWS...
Jul 27, 2005 04:08 am Theres a Free* Drum trigger plug in on KVRaudio.com somewhere. As long as the signals are gated and such, that'll trigger samples via. MIDI from individual hits.
