midi recording problems

I am currently recording a pattern from my Roland HPD-15, into my E-mu PX-7 sequencer, and when I play the pattern through the e-mu all the tracks come through correctly. However, when I start recording onto the e-mu, all the tracks in the pattern are recorded onto one track of the e-mu, resulting in, for example, bass, drums, synth parts, being recorded on the bass track.

Anybody know what I need to do to resolve this?

You need to record 1 track at a time. So, you need to set up say DRUMS MIDI and DRUMS AUDIO. Route the input to drums audio as drums midi and MUTE All other tracks.

This way, all that is playing is the drums. Record this on the drums track and viola, one drum track.

Repeat this muting all other tracks as you need to so set up a synth track, etc and repeat til all done.

Then, you will have a seperate track for each instrument.

Cheers, good luck and welcome to HRC.

Thanks,

That's sorted that now!

The other issue I have is I want to play sequences I have created on the E-mu on the HPD using it's sounds. It only seems to work the other way round at the moment. I have made the correct cable connections.

Any more ideas?

Ah, now I am nae midi master- basic stuff for trackin up ma drums and pianos is aboot it.

However, you do have the midi in/out round right. SOunds obvious but I sat and shouted at ma drum machine for hours only to realise my midi cables were all wrong way!! So, I was feeding it midi data to output sound and I was actually using midi out!! DOHHHH!

Other than that, best bet is to hope Noize2U pops in as he is the MASTER of all things MIDI...

Either way, good luck man.

YOu may also need to check and make sure the same sounds are applied to the same channels on the HD as they are on the E-Mu. This is a problem when trying to record on one synth/sequancer and playback on another. Each manufacturer may have their sounds in a completely differant order.

The only exception to this rule is when it comes to General Midi. In this case all synths should have the same sounds on the same patch numbers. They may sound better or worse then another's but they will still be the same instrument sounds.

sounds like your sequencer is re-broadcasting all of the midi data then recording it again...is there any way you can setup your channels on the sequencer to only accept data from one channel of your roland?
