I do all monitoring for overdubs with headphones (obviously). My problem is that the previous tracks being monitored bleed into my mic when recording other tracks. Is there an effective way to eliminate this problem? Would a gate be the answer?

May 06, 2005 04:00 pm i wouldn't gate, i'm not jokin', but wrap a towel around the headphones...looks stupid but it works. really headphone bleed isn't too bad and can usually be drowned out in the mix unless there's a click track gooin...that would be bad.
May 06, 2005 04:21 pm Ya know, I thought singers holding cans over their lugs was a pattery crock of crap til I got this very problem 2 weeks ago.
Now, I cover em with my hands and low and behold, minimal bleed.
Towel would also work tho - depends on how big yer hands are I guess :-) !
Cheers
Coco.

May 07, 2005 12:28 am If you can swing it (bucks of course) get either the Vic Firth or Senheiser (sorry can't remember model number) isolation headphones. I picked up some Vic Firths (less expensive of the two) and although they are not a quality I would use in mixing they made a HUGE difference in bleed into the mic. Great isolation even at pretty high volume levels.

so they can't hear the headphones? ..just playing with you.
Iso phones are an awesome thing and also allow you to track in the same room as your control area, which is awesome. But yeah, i'm a towel guy too.
