I dont really trust any to answer my questions outside of this site.. i dont konw y, familiarty? anyhow, my friend has Windows XP p2, thats wat she says, i dont really know because i use Millenium. Anyhow, she says her problem is that the windows keeps restarting itself, and she think it might be a bug for the windows. Does anyone know of a fix for the bug? Or if the problem is somehting else entirely.
Thanx, and sorry for the bad english.

May 03, 2005 01:08 pm What is the last screen that comes up before it restarts itself??
May 03, 2005 01:12 pm There are a few common viruses that cause the auto-reboot thing. First thing I'd do is update the virus definitions of her anti-virus app and do a virus scan (assuming she has an anti-virus app). If she doesn't, go to free.grisoft.com and download their butt-kickin' awesome FREE anti-virus app.
Also, get an app like Lavasoft's Adaware or Microsoft's own anti-spyware app and run a scan for spyware.
I think at this point going right for the reinstall is sort of the "shotgun" approach...it may not be necessary.
May 03, 2005 01:23 pm ever shot from the hip with a shotgun??? ya still get the job done! lol, deeb's is right, and i trust his computer expertiese over my own.
May 03, 2005 01:47 pm I agree with dB on this one. Sound like an old virus has sprung up on it. It will display a prompt saying it will reboot in 30 seconds of something like that. Most likely this is the issue.
May 03, 2005 01:48 pm Surely check the virus out first as dB says.
ALWAYS reimage (i.e. reinstall the PC as a last resort - backup is a pain in the butt).
Take it from someone who has been restoring files for the last 3 days - always maintain backups too...it makes things like this MUCH easier.
DONT learn the hard way :-(

May 03, 2005 02:45 pm This sounds very much like a symptom of a virus. If this is the particular virus that I think it is, it will only reboot while connected to the internet. Sounds like you may not have a firewall.
Before you try to innoculate this machine, you should get it behind a firewall as you will not be able to upgrade your virus definitions or Windows update as it will reboot before you have a chance to download them.
