I am looking at two sound cards and wanted to ask advice on which would be the best buy. The M-Audio Delta 1010 or the Motu 1224. Now I know this model from Motu is not made anymore but which would be the better buy (Motu is on ebay in good con, few years old)
Many Thanks

Hello,

Although I cannot offer any feedback regarding the quality of these 2 cards, I just wanted to point out that I beleive the Motu 1224 is an 8 channel and the Delta 1010 is a 10 channel so if you need 10 channels then the Delta is the way to go.

The Delta is really only 8 channels of analog i/o and 2 channels of digital i/o. The 1224 has 8 channels of analog i/o as well as an added 2 channels of analog out using XLR connections. It also has 2 channels of AES/EBU digital i/o. And has a wordlcok interface as well for timing sync.

The one thing you will want to make sure of on the ebay purchase of the MOTU unit is that the PCI 324 card is included with it. That is necesarry to hook it into the PC. MOTU still used that interface card of several of its interfaces. And the card can hold up to 4 of the units such as the 1224, or 24i/o, the 2408 and a couple of others. The units can be mixed and matched and will all play nice with each other. So honestly the MOTU if it comes with the card and at a decent price will be a decent unit.

Well, Digidesign may eventually support the Delta1010 for use with Pro Tools. There are a few M-Audio interfaces that are compatible with a new version of PT for M-Audio products called Pro Tools M-Powered. I don't mean that you must use Pro Tools but to have the option to do so is very cool.

Ive also been looking at geting some kind of Fire Wire card. The main two are the M-audio and MOTU.

Im heading towards the MOTU beacuse all inputs are ballanced and has more suport with drivers etc..,

So when your looking at them try and see if they offer online help/support secound hand or brand new.
