monitoring amp sims...

ok, i got a job recording local band demos at a local studios B-room...and they have the works as far as plug-ins go (along with running nuendo)...im particularly intrigued by the guitar amp simulators (Re-Valver, ROCK LEGENDS, Nomad, WarpVST, Amplitube)...and so far they sound pretty good...but...

-the downside is, when we record the tracks, we have to record them clean, then obviously insert the plug-in on that track...and i was wondering if instead of monitoring the track clean while recording it...we could actually hear what the distortion sounds like while we record it?

im not sure if anyone understands this...but...if not, ill clarify if neccessary...

basically...i want to record the guitar tracks and hear the amp-sim while im doing it, instead of recording it clean and then putting it on...

set up an aux buss with the amp sim on it, and throw a send to it on your recorded track...i'm pretty sure that'll work.

I know I can moniter whatever pluggin I want in Sonar. Then I just apply it later. I know what you mean though about wanting to hear it live while you play. It has a tendancy to make you play just that little bit differant when you can actually hear what it might sound like effected. That is the main reason I still keep outboard FX processors, so the artist can at least get a taste of what might go on the track whil listening in the cans. Then if you find another FX that might work better, you at least have the dry take to work on rather then having the FX on the track and finding out they stink.
