Recording vocals (gear)

I am looking to purchase a good quality condensor mic($300-$800). I was wondering what all you guys use for recording your vocals and what other things such as preamps, compressors and processors you all use?

Any particular software(plugins) that you run?

I run sonar 4 producer edition and I use guitar port as my soundcard.
I am currently just using a dynamic mic for vocals and running it through a ART mic preamp before it goes to guitar port.

Any help would be great!
Thanks
Joe

i tracked with an AKG C4000 gooin' into a Blue Tube pre then compressed with an FMR Really Nice Comressor.....you can hear the results in my profile....this setup worked real well with me, infact on that track i've only got a tad more plugin compression (sonnatus)(sp?)....no eq or anything yet..just a bit of reverb.

peace

Joe, I use Sonar 4 PE as well as dB and a few others on here. I have grown to like the program very much as they have now entered into the very high end of the software DAW market.

As for a good condensor mic, check out out the Studio Equipment section, or this page for mics.

I myself use several such as the Oktava MK-319, MC-012, Audio Tehcnica AT3035, as well as my favorite that takes some real abuse, a CAD Equitek E-100. Also just picked up a matched pair of Samson C02's which for the price were suprisingly good, better then my 012's really.

A lot of people use the Rode NT1 or NT2 and love them. So have a look there as well as ue the link to Musicians Friend and take a look at some of the specs. Even the lower priced mic's are now getting sound that compete's with some of the high dollar stuff.

Sonar as well . I'd like to 2nd the FMR RNC (sweet), I also have a few more cBehringer compressors/preamps ect. I use a few condecor mic's like the octava MK-319, B-1 from behringer and my two fav vocal mic's MXL VG76 and VG79(tub mic). AKG and Rode make some nice mic's, personally the NT1 was just too sensitive for my likes (to each there own). There are a lot to choose from. as far plug in's a # of Cackwalk, steinberg and I use Waves the most.

My favorite set up right now, largely due to finances (what I have been able to try) is the Oktava 319 through a Behringer 1953 preamp. The Behringer is a little finikey as it has two input gan stage adjustements and a warming drive adjustement, but tuned correctly to the singer it does a sweet job. Excellent S/N and nice tube compression on the top. I have also used the NT1 with the Behringer, but for most vocalists that I have encountered it is a little crisp and too detailed.
