GS, how high is your CPU meter going? Depending on track count you might be overloading the CPU.

If that is not the case, you might be clipping the digital outputs. Try lowering the outputs of the tracks just abit and see what happens.

And by mixing down do you mean when you are exporting audio, or just playing the project in full while doing some edits?

CPU meter is only going up to about 33%. I am going to try and bring down the outputs some an see what will happen. It happens when I am playing back the project when editing the mix. Sonar just turns off. I will have to go back and hit the sonar icon and restart the project I was working on. Of course if I don't save after every move I could loose what I just edited. It is very strange, before I put the two cards in together I would just peak the cpu and I would get the blue screen of death. Now after new cpu and upgrade of ram sonar 2.2 just drops out and I will have to restart the program.

Have you reloaded the system after upgrading the cpu and ram. I'd at least re-install the sound card drivers and sonar.

If I had the time I'd reload windows altogether.

GS, have you gone and looked to make sure your new CPU is being recognized. I had to dig into the bios and turn up the FSB clock to the right speed to accomodate the new chip.

I am just guessing but that may or may not have a bit to do with the problem as well.

I thank you all for your help I am going to try and get into it tomorrow night and see what in the heck is going on.....I am 8 songs into my new project...I am recording my new band,,not wave loops this is the stuff and I really don't need the hassle of it crashing the program like that. The bad thing is M-adio is saying it is sonar and cakewalk is saying it is the m-audioso I guess I am going to have to go tweak away on a non recording nite. I jst got to keep hitting ctrl s all the time a save save save. I will keep every one posted and I will be posting some great new band releases here shortly....rock on and be true to your love of music!!!!

Ya, thats the way it works. the software guy says its the hardware, and the hardware guy says its the software. No one will ever take the blame untill you can point the finger directly at them.

I am skeptical about it being the CPU though. I didnt have any problems running Sonar 4 Producer ot Project 5 after I popped in my new CPU. And it acutally still ran before I upped the front side buss speed as well. But differant MoBo's might cause differant problems.

Just on a lark, have you tried the 1010 cards in differant slots? And also have have you gone into control panel to check if there are any IRQ conflicts?

I changes the drivers from mme to wdm and I upped the buffer to 256, The program is not crashing like it was but if I run 24 or more channels with dxi efx it will lock up. I reinstalled the drivers for sonar and the computer sees both cards like it is supposed to and as far as I know when I go to control panels devise I see no conflicts. Changing the drivers to wdm helped some. I guess I need to tell the wife we need a new computer and go get a but screaming 3+ghz with 800fsb lol. The good thing is I was able to do final mixes on 3 songs last night and they sound wonderful. I will be posting them shortly

try setting a loop for roughly 10 seconds or so, and let it play through. even if it drops out just restart it..if it plays fine while looping, it's prolly your hard drive. i'm having something similar happen with me in sonar 3. it's at a point where i hafta mix like that and have to bounce down to stereo mix to hear the whole song at once ยง=o( just a pain in the arse but i can work around it.

can't wait to hear what you're dooin'

GS, you can even set the buffer higher then that for only running playback. When I get a huge load of softsynths truckin along I will even go as far as setting it as high as 512. That will definately make playback runn smoother if your using loads of DSP FX.
