What are your opinions on all in one recording studios?
At the moment I personally use a Fostex VF08 but looking to update to something better with more inputs and a built in CD recorder. I kinda like the porta studio idea, I'm not big on computer programs, I like the feel of knobs! lol
So what porta studios do you use and what could you reccomend me?
cheers

Mar 02, 2005 08:40 am The latest version of the Fostex VF-160 has a built-in CD burner, 16 channels (8 inputs - 2 XLR and 6 line). A few of us around here use one. I personally love mine very much.
Mar 02, 2005 09:11 am I am due to get mine tomorrow thru the post...WOHOO! A nice new Fostex VF160 as per Geetar Jim...
After much research, I opted for this one on account of the ability to record 16 simultaneous tracks anywhere with a couple of add ons!! Nice..there aint many multitrackers short of £1500-£2000 that allow this just now.
So, its seemin good to me...
Cheers and good luck
Coco.

Mar 02, 2005 11:26 am My brother has a Yamaha AW16G and loves it. I don't live anywhere near him, so I've not gotten a chance to play with it, but it "looks" like it'd do fine. He uses a 16 channel mixer to "send" to the AW16G. The only concern I have with the SIABs is the screen size. I've got old eyes that need 1.5 reading glasses to see a 17" computer monitor...
I don't think he can import/export from/to a computer, but I'm not sure. Another drawback would be the limitation of being unable to "upgrade" any individual component of the "system". You're stuck with the "resolution" the machine is built with. My bro's does 48khz, 24 bit (or 44.1 16), and can't go higher without a new box...
