Problem with Firewire Solo/Audiophile 2496 and Cubase

Alright. I just purhcased a Firewire Solo to run my new AKG C1000 into directly, for recording guitars. I already have an Audiophile 2496 PCI Sound card installed as well.

The problem lies within my ASIO setup. I have my monitors hooked into the outputs of the 2496, and yet I want to record from the Firewire Solo. So..

Input - Firewire
Output - Audiophile 2496

It will not let me do this through the Device Setup in Cubase. But - It allowed me to do it in Adobe Audition.

So I have to be missing something, right?

Oh. And the signal was kind of weak going into Cubuase. I do not have a pre-amp for the mic because the firewire provides phantom power- but should I still get one for a weak signal?

Thanks! First post!

Welcome to HRC.

As a technical limitation, ASIO can only deal with one device at a time unless manufacturers make some hacks to their drivers to allow multiple devices, which many do. You may be having an issue regarding that. I am also unsure of the driver types that Cubase supports, as I am a Sonar user, but, if possible, I would suggest trying WDM drivers and see if you can get it to work that way.

I should state that I do not want to use them simulateonusly (sp.) - I can switch the AISO driver from the device setting to use either/or, but for example I'd have to record with the Firewire, then switch through settings just to monitor, then switch to record again.

Could you give me a briefing or a link on where I can learn more about WDM drivers/AISO drivers.

I have Sonar too, so maybe I will give that a look.

Thanks though!
