Mbox On Windows XP - The lost files

Okay I'm relatively new to home audio recording so please forgive me if this seems like a dumb question. I bought my Mbox and did the "msconfig" thing to keep interference with recording to an absolute minimum. Just this week out of the blue I'm getting this task window that pops up when I start Pro Tools Telling me that it can't find certain audio files. Crazy things like the left track of a stereo track. Pieces and bits of tunes are just gone. I went into my windows media player to see if the files weren't hiding out there, it had records of the files but then the words, "not found" also, ProTools doesn't read media player, I then decided to remove media player as my default media program. Question is; Do I have to do all those tracks over again? Am I not saving these tracks correctly to begin with? All my pro tools books just give the happy information no serious troubleshooting. Help!!!!

ok first off, windows media player is not a "place" where files are kept, go into my computer > c drive > umm maybe protools or whatever and you're files are in there somewhere. you can tell protools where to look for or record audio in the options menu....i donno where, i haven't used PT in a year, but i know you can...set up a default audio folder (preferbly per project) to record to...i'm positive your tracks are on your computer somewhere. do a search for the name of the accual file (not the title of the song) and it'll turn up.

Okay,
I can physically find the files, but the relinking task window continues to tell me it can't find the file even when I've sent it all the info it needs to get the file. How do I get them from where they are back to pro tools?

smrobbi: I would try un-installing PT and re-installing on the computer and then re-import your sessions one at a time into PT from there. Sounds like you have a disk allocation issue of some sort. If this doesn't work, visit duc.digidesign.com and post in the PT windows section on there. Ask for a guy named Rail on the boards. He is great with these type of things, and all the folks on the PT boards are excellent for PT related stuff in full detail. :) Goodluck
