Any ideas on what to do about a guitarist who compulsivly (yet subconsiously) kicks over the mic on his amp durring practice? We record our practices, which is actually where all of our recordings from the first cd came from. Anyway it's really hard to mix when I loose guitar halfway through the song. Anyone have any ideas? I've talked to him, and he doesn't even realize he does it.

Short of electro shock therapy or bolting down the mic base, I think the only thing that you can do it mount the mic to the amp itself or just move it farther away from him. Or, this is what I like to do for guitarists that are always loud, put the amp on a chair or stool so it right in his ear. He'll stay farther away from it. Also, there are mic clips that you can buy, I ahve them for drums, but they have a "claw" on the end of them and you can mount them to the lip or edge of his amp. He might still hit it, but he won't be able to knock it over anymore. Only about $10 for them.

Lenny Kravits tapes his microphones (SM57's) right to his speaker grill verticly against it, so there isn't even a stand invloved.

There are mic stands that sit between an amp head and the cabinet, held in place by the weight of the head so it couldn't be kicked either, but I can't find a link at musician's friend right now...it's tickin me off cuz I know they are there ... Grrrr...

Hi Dingo. You could mount a gooseneck directly to the amp. Besides being kickproof, that would be one less stand to bring along for performances. Good luck, George.
