Hey there,
I am worked now for a couple of months through a tascam computer based, firewire, recroding module. Iam thinking of selling the firewire system and buying a pci recording system due to a few reasons.
As Iam new to Pci systems i have some basic questions: First of all, as the prices of PCI systems are fairly low, i was interested to know the bandwith size in such card (mainly practicly: how many (minimum) tracks can i record simultaneosly through the systems.)
Furthermore are these cards (around 300-600$)durable?
Any other info would be granted:)
THANKS

Feb 25, 2005 08:28 am PCI busses run at 66mHz as I recal, internal bus speed are at least as fast, sometimes faster than external connection speeds.
As far as track you can use depends on your system speed. basically you are limited to the number of simultaneous tracks of input on the device, as with any audio interface whether PCI, USB or Firewire.

Feb 25, 2005 09:29 am AGP (66 Mhz) and PCI Bus (32) are both based on a 32 bit bus, except PCI-X (not PCI-Express) which runs at 66mHz.
Mind you, I think the CPU and memory will determine how many tracks you can record!
?? - I think -?? DB?

Feb 25, 2005 01:20 pm i use a pci card and have recorded 8 tracks for 20 mins without any problems, but i'm sure the firewires can do the same, i'm considering gettin' a firewire one too (tascams 1804 is lookin' mighty tastey) i was wonderin' if they would be able to work together....otherwise i gotta stick to mutiple aardvarks, which i wouldn't mind though. they can handle up to 4 devices at once.
peace
