no sound when recording acoustic guitar in cubasis

I am new to recording on the comp. I have a Tascam US-122 USB audi/MIDI interface and I'm using Cubasis VST to record. I have my acoustic guitar hooked to the tascam with a 1/4" and i can see that the program picks up the signals. However after I record and play back, i the recording is barely audible. I tried messing with all the input and output settings and I cant figure out how to make it work. Can anyone help me out? thanks...
