A Brand new Microphone!

Saved up some money over the holidays and am looking for a brand new Large diaphragm Mic to complement my studio gear. Looking for something around $200-$500 (this is Us $) with a freq. range of 20hz. to 20Khz. that'll go well with my 57 backing up guitar amps. Something along lines of Rode Nt 1.?

Any suggestions or reviews?

Ty

I hear this often....I have the B1 but I think I will be getting me a NT1 at some point in the future...

Sounds like a nifty little mic for sure.

Coco.

Yup yup, The NT1 is a great 'all around' mic. I have two and love them. A little crisp on the top end but beyond that very little coloration. The NT1 is a great 'first large diaphram' mic for any studio as it will find a place in the mic closet with the most expensive mics as time goes by. It's lack of color makes it a keeper. And with some eq, tube warming, etc. it can model a lot of mics really well. Later down the road when you start booking Whitney Houston, Erykah Badu, and Barbra Stristand you can pick up a Neuman or a Blue and let them pay for it!

Hey coco, do you like the qualities of the B1 mic.? This is also another possibility Im looking into.

Well thanks Presley and walt, im definitely leaning towards the NT 1 at the mo'

Walt, how does the Senheiser range of dynamic mics pair up against the SM 57?

Cheers

Aye...and I'll tell ye this - for the money - its class man! Ye canny whack the Behringer gear.

I am due to post a wee collab soon (more details later) I recorded all vox on it with the B1, so, ye can hear it for yerself.

But aye, its sweet. Presley used it on a lot recordings too and his stuff sounded excellent. Its warm and sweet...aye - good mic. Also, if ye get a cheaper mic like the B1, leaves ye more cash for more stuff (I bought a cheaky wee Virtualizer with the dosh I saved!! Niceeee).

Thanks coco, looking at the reviews im probably leaning towards the NT 1 at the moment.

Does any body know if there is any "super" diff. between the qualities of the NT1 and say the NT 1000 (which has a super flat frequency response!)?

Colonel,

Great choice!

The Sennheiser E835 Vocal is head to head with the 57/58 line. Some folks like the Sennheisers a little better, others prefer the Shure. Real close race.

So what about you walt? Do you like the shure or the sennheiser ranges? And what are the differences?
