Its all about selection

I've been looking into getting Reason 2.5 recently, mainly because I have a midi keyboard, hd recorder, as well as Cubase VST, FL, etc., but want a "soft synth" (I guess thats what they are called) that offers the MOST sounds to choose from. Especially high quality or higher quality strings. Any suggestions besides reason?

Reason is a good choice ,you'd be happy with that most people are . with that said I'm on the Project 5 band wagon . they are very simular programs with slight differences.

Cakewalk project 5 is real nice, ummm you might wanna check into individual things instead of the "all in one" kinda package, basically there are several types of electronic instruments...

samplers - play .wav or .aiff files and are good for "realistic" sounds because you're playing back a small recording of the real thing. this is where you'll get your high quality string sounds.

synths - there are tons of varables here, basically there are a few major types of syths, additive, subtractive, frequency modulation (FM), granular and there are some more that i don't know of, i'm sure....these are your typical "tecno" or electronic sounds that are used alot in modern music

drum machines - are basically samplers geared twards drums

then you can combine and layer each to come up with some totaly cool soundscapes

anyway i'm gooin' too far here...so yeah reason is a good place to start and so is project 5, but also look into any of Native Instruments stuff like the FM7, or the B4...

peace
