Ok, i just upgraded to a P4 3.0 GHZ and installed Windows XP SP2, installed my FirePod (firewire device) and for some reason Windows would drop communication with it for a couple of seconds from time to time, it still worked...just not as well as before and it was extremely annoying! I used the old XP before (no SP's) and it ran fine so this was driving me crazy until I found this:
support.microsoft.com/kb/885222
Just thought I'd let everyone know in case any of you are having the same issues.
WHAT A STUPID PROBLEM!!!

Feb 09, 2005 04:23 pm yeah, SP2 is a conflict with quite a few Audio Apps. I hear now days. I am a Pro Tools user and it is a definate no no to install SP2 for use with PT on a system. ;)

Feb 09, 2005 05:27 pm I havn't had any problems with SP2 with SONAR 2.2XL and my aardvark Q10... I did have a problem with ACPI though.
Feb 09, 2005 06:11 pm Don't automatically attribute the problem to something Microsoft did. Most people use SP2 just fine, such as myself and sek mentioend above. The problem is likely the drivers for your card...tho the sound card company would never admit that :-)
Feb 09, 2005 06:19 pm cool, thanks for clearin' that up for me....on that note, i donno about y'all, but my computer is for music only, and it runs like a dream, but i never get any driver updates or service packs on the basis of, if it's not broke don't fix it...i understand if you are usin' your computer for other stuff too though.
peace

Feb 09, 2005 08:44 pm I take it you don't use that computer for accessing the internet to post on this forum? If you are, you're vulnerable without the service packs installed. Merely being online puts you at risk.

Feb 14, 2005 10:30 am dB, click that link in my original post...read that and you'll know that it IS xp SP2 causing the problems, SP2 changes 1394 (firewire) connections from 800 mb/sec to 100 mb/sec, nice one MicroCRAP!
If you are not using any firewire devices you'd never see this problem....
Feb 14, 2005 10:33 am Perhaps, but it also appears they have a resolution to it as well.
Feb 14, 2005 01:15 pm no my computer is an internet virgin and will always be untill i get a new one...i use it for audio, and storage of mp3's and pics...other than that it dosn't get used.
