Overheads...

for anyone looking for a fairly priced studio condenser for overheads and vocals and such...i would check into the Studio Projects C1...i got one for christmas and have been recording with it for the last week...on vocals...it sounds awesome,...some say it stands its ground against Neumanns and whatnot...however, i cant back that up cause i have never used a Nuemann of any sort, but what i can say is that it sounds so very pretty...with a touch of compression, a little reverb you got yourself a very professional sounding vocal...Christina Aguilera has used them in the studio before and has been quoted as saying something along the lines of "wow...my voice sounds amazing through this thing...what is it?"...

as far as overheads...it sounds so very nice,...i only have one and have used as a sort of "center" overhead in conjunction with 2 small diaphragm Nady mics...and i've had to fight the urge to cut the stereo overhead tracks and just use the mono overhead from the Studio Projects C1...it sounds that good...some of the reviews i read said they sound "harsh" on the cymbals...i personally feel it sounds natural...meaning, if you have harsh sounding cymbals...the mic will pick up some harsh sounding cymbals...

the fact is i love this mic and will love it forever and ever and ever...

We have been running 2 Studio Projects B1's on our overheads and we love them too...At first we were scepticle but what you said is exactly true, with the b1's there is simply NO colouration at all, so your right, if you have harsh cymbals you get a harsh sound from them. I find them VERY true to what you actually hear in the room. After finding optimal mic placements for the overheads we were blown away at the clarity and resonance they produced...great mics! I got the 2 B1's during a boxing week sale for $260 Canadian (for both). For that price you really can't go wrong, but if you ask me they are worth more than that!

We also record our singer with them and he likes his vocal tracks that we recorded with them better than our last demo that we recorded at a VERY pro studio with Neumanns...go figure?

I have (had) a SP B3 that I used for lots of stuff with very good results. I've been very happy with it.
