Mixing Miracle ASAP

I need to mix and "master" 3 rap/hip-hop (NO VOCALS) tracks using:

Pro Tools LE 6.1
Headphones
Waves Bundle

I have basic knowledge of how to use compressors, limiters, etc. I just need a one paragraph, "quick and dirty" mixing instructional. I've already track the beats out.

Currently Problems:
I don't know the proper order of normalizing, compression, etc. as it would pertain to mixing and mastering a song.

One of the kicks in my song is too "punchy" (dumped from a keyboard)

What should I do (in general) with:
Piano sounds
Guitar Riffs
808 Snares
Drum Rolling Snares
Claps
Hi Hats

How do I give low, eery sounds definition/clarity? I know you can use mild compression here as well.

If anyone could help me out ASAP (like by 3pm Friday 01-13-04) I would greatly appreciate it. Any knowledge of copyright that you need, or getting your DBA, please don't hesitate to ask me. Thanks

Check the tips section, there are tons of tips on how to EQ different instruments, how to use dynamic effects and such things. Just search thru them, you'll find what you need to ask more specific questions or just get the answer outright.

all kinds of files i presume? more importantly, what limitions does the demo version have, being only 8 bit? and what kind of output does this have? im assuming this would be the last step in post production and you would take the output from this program to the CD for the final cut.

Well, sometimes it will require maximization after Har-Bal.

8-bit is a kind of lame resolution, but it gives ytou an idea of the interface and the way the app works. 8-bit was the limitation they decided on for piracy prevention. Cuz if it had 16-bit or better and they just disabled it with some code check, it could be easily cracked and pirated.

It takes wav files and exports wav files.

ksmall, if I were you, I'd eq every individual instrument using your waves plugins and try compression on all of them (you may choose not to eq some instruments depending on how they sound and the sound you're looking for).

For your kick that is too punchy try using some reverb to soften it up.

use eq!
Check the recording tips section for an article on eq, it will benefit you greatly if you don't know how use eq yet.
