I've recieved good help here so I am back with more questions.
How should I install my plextor px-708a into my computer? Should I yank the DVD or CD burner? How do I know wich one to pull? I'm being told that I need to check the DVD/CD read and write speeds to see which one is better but I can't find these numbers.
Any help would be great.
Thanks---

Jan 05, 2005 12:47 pm The speeds are the 24x type numbers, it's different speeds for different jobs.
I'd pull the CD-R, odds are the DVD burner can burn CD's as well. Then, just pull that, make sure your master/slave settings are the same as the one you pulled out (little jumpers on the back of the drive) and hook the DVD up to the same cables that the CD burner used.

Jan 05, 2005 04:41 pm Thanks. So is installing this a tricky procedure? I opened up the hard drive once and nearly fainted wondering how I was going to pull out the cdrom and install this hardware without screwing up my computer....
Thanks again...

Jan 05, 2005 05:48 pm It's actually relatively easy. The hardest part (for me) is pulling the connector off of the drive that is currently installed. If you're replacing a drive that is currently installed, just make sure the new one goes in exactly like the old one was.

Jan 05, 2005 06:35 pm Also, make sure the jumpers are the same as the CD burner you are taking out. You'll see this little piece on two prongs. There will be like 3 sets of two prongs and the jumper will be on the one of the sets (M,S,C will be written under each one maybe). Hope that makes sense!

Jan 06, 2005 09:43 am Well, I appreciate all the help. (You all make is sound SO easy!) Perhaps if I get enough courage up today I'll open it up and see if I can do it. It just seems like such a pain in the a**. I think I have to remove the zip drive too in order to pull out the CD ROM. Well, thanks again. If I have any more questions or gripes, I shall return.
