slow-mo playback

I have an annoying problem. I woke up, turned on the computer, tried to play a CD, and it played back in slow motion. I didn't change anything since the night before. I tried reinstalling the drivers but it still isn't working right. HELP!

I'm running an XP machine with and Echo Gina 3G.

If your using Windows Media Player make sure you didn't accidentally enable the Play Speed function.

Another possiblility would be on sound cards capable of having sample rates locked, make sure you haven't.

The sample rate isn't locked and I'm not using Windows Media Player. The strange this is that when I use the on-board soundcard, it plays at normal speed.

I don't have any other ideas, but it sure sounds like a sample rate problem with Echo Gina.

That is odd as the only way the sound card could have any effect on it is via the sample rate. I am curious what player you are using then as well, ifnot Window Media player. But it does seem to point at the Echo card if the same player plays it normal with the stock card.

There may be a setting that is forcing the Echo card to a differant sample rate that you might not see. I as well am stumped if that isnt the case.

When the problem happened I was using Windows Media Player, but then I tried using Winamp and it did the same thing. I checked the playback speed settings in WMP, but they're ok. This problem also occurrs in Tracktion. Strangely, it also affected my partition that I don't do any recording/editing on. I've contacted Echo's tech support, so hopefully they can help.

Now that would be a cause for concern then. I hope they get back to you soon. I do know that Echo has some issues dealing with some chipsets on certain mother boards. I am not certain which ones but I know dB had an issue with his gina and the chipset on the MoBo I now own which runs perfect with a Delta on it.

I'm having the EXACT same problem, though it's with the Layla24. I do mean the EXACT same problem.

A few weeks ago, it happened intermitently and without any triggers. I then noticed that it seemed to happen most when the soundcard was turned on after having been off over night, for example. If I played about half an hours worth of mp3s it seemed to magically flick back to normal operation. Sometimes that didn't work, and it just seemed to randomly switch.

And now it's permanently stuck at slow-mo playback and has bben for a few days now. I've tried everything - reinstalling drivers, changin PCI slots, different programs.

I, like you, have two seperate boot partitions - one for audio, one for home. Same problem on both sides which makes me think it isn't software.

Also - the fact that the card worked flawlessly for around a year makes me think it isn't my other hardware conflicting.

Anyway - did you hear back from Echo? Or did you work out what was wrong? I'd be very interested to hear what happend - [email protected]

Cheers,

Douglas.
