The digi002 is expensive because, well, thats what DigiDesign does, and, when buying it you are sort of buying yourself a rope to tie yourself to ProTools systems, and it comes with a light version of PT adding to the price. Some people here use that system and are very happy with it. Tascam surfaces can be used with most any modern app that you would choose to use.

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear seems like a nice interface, but it's not a control surface, only two channels have preamps. Preamps are not typically part of the sound device because many people like to use the preamps on their mixers or user outboard preamps.

bt, the PreSonus FirePod is what you are thinking of correct? If so, I have heard a few good things about it. Although it is only and interface, not a complete control and interface like the Tascam or Digi.

On the note dB is talking about, I guess if your looking for that route I would opt for the Tascam. I have tested one out thinking of getting one in the future. Nice unit, the initial drivers were a bit flaky but I am told that has been resolved. It is also expandable, via adding 8 channel control units that basicaly add 8 more faders, inputs and the channel strip control for each. I liked it but am still leary of the firewire thing for audio.
