I really like the arrangement and the song itself on the whole. The cymbal and tom fils during the clean guitar arpeggio parts could go away and it wouldn't bother me any. Like maybe save them for towards the end, instead of using them during every break. Great drumming, and great drum sound.

Awesome impact with the guitar solo, its really a welcome part of the arrangement. However, the solo guitars need way more mids in them, they're so mid-scooped that they don't stand out in the mix.

The vocal lines are great and have a nice melody. They need more mids too, or something to make them stand out a bit. They're kind of thin, they just need something to make them jump out.

The piece as a whole could use some mastering, like some sort of maximization to really make it jump out and grab the listener.

Good effort, I'd love to hear more.

You could start with a hard limiter. I've never used Sonar, so I'm not sure if this translates directly into what you can do with it, but in the apps that I've used, you can run the stereo .wav file thru a limiter. Set the limit to about -.25 dB, and start turning up the input gain until its loud but not so loud that you can hear it pumping.

Does anybody else know of any premastering-type functions in Sonar?

J200, you can open the Sonar 2 file in Sonar 4. Just make sure you keep a copy of the original file incase you need to work on it in 2 again.

If you right click on the audio tracks in Sonar you will see the menu come up. You will have a huge array of FX to choose from. They have some pretty heavy tools in Sonar 4 that come close to some of the mastering software I use here. Try tweaking around with the FX available there and if you get stuck just post here and I will try adn get back to you ASAP.

This song sets a great mood. I like the recording very much. The guitar sounds good, and the vocals sound great. The solo is hot! I may not hear the little EQ nuances that the others hear...but I know what I like, and I like this song.
