I've searched several forums and can't find the exact answer to my question, which is:
I have 2 preamps i'm using to record a dry signal into my Delta 1010 to my pc, yet i have no way of monitoring the mix along with the 2 preamps (for vocals); so how can this be done? ..with a mixer? I thought a mixer wouldn't work for monitoring purposes because of the built-in preamps of which i DON'T want to use. I want to use my high-end pres.
I realize you would use a Y cable to split the signal so that one goes to the Delta 1010 and the other goes tooooo....... where? ...a mixer?
If i could hear my mix from Sonar (no vocals), in my headphones, and sing into my mic - WITH reverb (which won't be recorded since the dry signal's going to the hard drive), then that would be awesome. Focusrite's Voicemaster Pro has this feature built in but i don't want that unit. Will a simple mixer work?
Remember, i still want to be able to adjust the volume of the 2 preamps in my headphones as i record - as well as the mix volume from Sonar. Does anyone see what i'm wanting to do? Thanx a million for any help!

Dec 16, 2004 10:18 am Well I am a little confused. But that's nothing new.
It kinda sounds as if it boils down to taking the signal from the pre-amp output to a good listening level on your headphones. You will still have to pass through some amplification post your pre-mps. You can come into the line in of a mixer where the trim-pots on the channel are just that, trim pots, not pre-amplification. You can come in aux returns on a mixer. You can use a headphone amplifier. Using a mixer you will not have to utilize "y" cables. There is no need to pass through the mic-pre on a mixer if you have already pre-amped your mic(s).
Hope this is close.

Oh ok, so i can bypass the built-in mixer preamps. Cool.
I have a 4 ch Behringer headphone amp. Is that all i need to hear my mix from Sonar as well as my 2 preamps? I guess all i have to do is plug in the mix from the out on my Delta, then run my 2 preamps to the back of the Behringer, then listen to all of it together thru the global headphone out.
My software config is correct.
Thanx for the help guys!
