Hello StoneTone, welcome to HRC,

Seems to be a lot of interest lately in theat E-MU card service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

When recording voices a compressor is very effective at smoothing out and raising levels, but it must be done, or, is most effectively done, thru an insert or effects loop on your mixer. I can't tell you specifically what's wrong, but I am assuming the ac97's config is not what it was before formatting.

I am not sure Iunderstand exactly what your set up is like, it sounds as if your speakers and reciever are running into your PC, which I assume is a misunderstanding on my part. If not, you should have the mixer running into your PC input, and the output on your PC going in to the reciever to the speakers.
