I'm running acid 4.0 and a behringer 4-channel mixer. When I lay down my tracks it sounds nice and loud over my moniters, but when I burn the songs to a cd and play them on my stereo in my truck or anywhere for that matter, the volume level is so low that I nearly have to crank the volume full level to hear it.

Any advice how I can get the sound level up to burn to a cd. Mind you I'm nearly peaking on my program. If I go any further then I will be redlining.

Thanks for the help!!!
Kevin

P.S. This may be one of many!!!

I have used Acid some but I believe that this isn't an Acid issue. We all have that problem (wouldn't call it a problem really) to where it sounds dull and the volume is low. PreMastering is what fixes that. Others here, especially dB, do mastering for a living or for years. I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. Here's a good article here with the basic of what it does:

That was the only article I hadnt gotten around to reading yet. But the links to the apps are no good. Those products have been discontinued at musicians friend. But I do see this must be where I am going wrong. I am doing just what it said; recording, burning and handing out. I am missing a vital step. A step that I have no clue where to start, how to do it, or anything.
Oh well happy learning huh?

Really, the level is your spekaers are a moot point, other than for reference, while recording, what you need to do is get the level in the meters on the track as hot as possible when recording. If they are not to your liking, then normalize it before mixing.

If you are redlining and still not loud enough, well, maybe you should go get your ears checked :-)

Seriously tho, do you compress or maximize much?

No I don't know how. Plus I never thought about it.

I do do this. Except in acid they have one meter for the whole thing, like a main. If they have separate meters, Im not sure how to pull them up.

compressing and/or maximizing will help A LOT, you should have a software compressor built in to your app. Then read www.homerecordingconnecti...story&id=13

Yeah, Wavelab rocks, I still use 4 myself, I have been using Wavelab since version 1.5, it's awesome for editing and many mastering duties, HarBal is for harmonic balancing, it's the bomb.
