Do you prefer using 2 over heads and a bass mic?, or a spereate mic for each part of the drumset and condesners for cymbals? Is one better than the other? What are the advantages with a mic for each piece (if there is any) being able to eq them and add different effects to each? and last but not least if you use seperate mics how do you go about panning and bouncing.

Thnaks in advance... Im off to work

The prefered answer is to mic each one BUT with 2 overheads and a kick mic would do just fine live. You are correct in saying that if you mic each piece, you have more controll as to turn up the toms, eq them, etc. You can pan and then again it's fine without it. Especially live I have found that if you pan it left and right, you won't get enough volume out of the snare and toms. So, I don't pan because it ends up me losing the meat in them. Try it both ways and see what you like.
