even worse...flash is neat, it looks cool, but to build a web site entirely in flash with no HTML equivelent is a BAD idea. Lots of people, including myself, don't wanna site around and wait for the thing to download, I wanna click thru the site, see what I wanna see and be done with it.
you can't bookmark flash pages, search engines will never rank flash pages highly at all, they take too long to download, you need a plugin to view them...yuck.

It's nice looking for sure but too much flash wont go down well with anyone who aint on broadband and even here on my works broadband which is faster than my home bb, its still a good 10-15 seconds to load!

Dec 03, 2004 08:14 am I didn't even stick around to wait for the load, I immediately looked for the proverbial "skip intro" button, and lo, there was not one, so I left...as will many.
But then, on the upside (sorta), not many people will find the site as it will not be on any search engine, so unless you post direct links such as was done here, or give peeps the exact URL, nobody will find it.

I am working on getting an html version of the site up, so that's a plus for those of you who dont feel like waiting. and thanks to everyone who took the time to view it.

I don't really believe in beating around the bush and skirting the issues...if you have been at HRC very long you will see countless example who don't have that courtesy with me...forums can be nasty places, however, I do not believe I was rude, I am surry if you do...
The internet is a competitive place, I've been in the internet business for many years. There are hard and fast rules about what works and what doesn't, and breaking those rules will never help.
- me not sticking around to wait for the flash to load WILL happen often.
- Looking for the "skip intro" button WILL happen often.
- people not seeing it leaving your site WILL happen often.
- not getting on search engines due to the flash WILL kill your visit count before it even starts.
Few people here are as passionate about web development and the business of the internet as me, few people enjoy talking about it and helping others with it as much as me...everything I said was meant as help, albeit very blunt or sarcastic, it is 100% true and meant to help.

It's also Kinda handy to have a " stop button" for the music I couldn't find one but I woke up everyone here with your music:P

Presley_07 - thanks on the congratualtions, yeah i use to have an html site before i uploaded the flash site, fortunatley becuase of this, my website still comes up on search engines, and yes I am trying to get the html version up and running which will solve some problems mentioned here. About the stop button, there is a stop button in the bottom left hand corner where you see the radio. Maybe I can put a label there so people can find it easier. Thanks for the advice

Dec 03, 2004 07:08 pm be aware search engines are real bitches sometimes...you can fall off of it quite quickly. Their spiders get around the 'net much faster than they used to and index much more content, which is why readable content is so important, and why flash is the devil, because search engines (most) can't read it.
Dec 06, 2004 10:57 pm Ya, congrats Chris on the Berklee thing. Checked out the site. Looks nice, but gotta agree with the others on at least adding a skip intro button. Otherwise, liked the site. And the new tune is pretty decent as well.
