New Guy Needs Drum Machine Assistance

Hello -

I was recently given a Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-660 drum machine. However, I do not have the manual and not been able to locate one on the internet. I have no experience with drum machines, and I'm having some trouble learning how to use it. In a nutshell, I want to be able to record my own beats/songs. (Verse beat, pre-chorus fill, chorus, bridge etc). Can anyone help? I would appreciate any information. Thank you!

OK ... here's some quick start-up info to get you going. 1st, there are preset patterns and user patterns. I understand you'd like to create your own, so thusly, user patterns. Preset patterns are numbered 1 thru 400 and User Patterns go 401 thru 800. So, you can create up to 400 of your own. The presets cannot be edited (unless you copy one of them to a user # and then you can edit them from there). There are 2 type of pattern creating/recording: realtime and step. With realtime recording, you can begin recording beats up against a click track. With step recording, you can scroll through a "quantized" number of beats and place your rhythms on the beats that you want to create your pattern. First, we must get you to a blank pattern. Press the PTN/SONG button until you see the word pattern in the upper left-hand box. Scroll to the number 401 <the 1st user pattern, which should be blank, unless whomever gave you the unit made their own patterns there, then you'll have to continue to scroll until you find a blank pattern <this is noted by the dashes at the bottom of the bottom left-hand box on the screen: if the pattern is used the dashes areat the very bottom; if their unused, they're just a little higher>. Get your empty pattern and let's begin. Let's start with realtime: using the STEP/REAL button, you can alternate between the two types <do it and watch the screen in the upper left-hand box>. Select real. Press the red record button and then the play button and listen <with whatever monitoring device you have> to the click track and lay down a basic kick beat. The default is 4/4 time so keep this in mind. Then, when your done filling the time, press stop. Press the reset button to rewind to the beginning of your new pattern. Repeat the process, layering your parts until you've completed your pattern. End of lesson 1. I have some stuff to do and we'll get you onto something else if you haven't started to figure things out a little more yourself. Kirk

Wow!! Kirk, thanks so much for taking the time and effort to type that out. Unfortunately I'm on the road right now (I travel with my job), so I am unable to mess with the drum machine until tomorrow. I cant wait to give it a go! Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. I'll let you know how it goes!
