PCI recording

I'm looking at buying an echo gina 3g, presonus firebox, or E-MU 1820. First, which one of these do you guys recommend(or one that I didn't mention), and Second, the built-in sound card on my motherboard is crap. Do I need to buy a new sound card or will the PCI card from one of the recording interfaces take the place of it?

any of the three you mentioned above would replace the one built in your mobo, just disable the one on your mobo when you install the new one.

As far as recommendations, nobody can give a reccomendation without knowing how you record...but they are all decent units if the number of ins and outs fits your needs.

Judging from your profile, you already have a good pile of excellent gear that a lot of folks around here use. What do you stand to gain by purchasing one of the items that you listed?

Just curious! :-)

The equipment that I have listed in my profile is at the studio that my friend and I bruilt over at his house. I'm buying the pci interface for myself at home to replace a Boss BR-8.

You just said that! :-)

Like dB said, it would be helpful to know what kind of recording you want to do, in terms of number of simultaneous tracks, MIDI inputs, etc.
