Ok so i have a Roland 2480cd and I also have a MAC G4, So my question is this, how would i go about hooking the roland into the mac/protools for extra room, extra editing etc, even mixing, I know that the rolland can be used as a controller for protool, or so i have been lead to believe, Im quite new to the feild of recording digital so when and if you respond, can you make it super lamens terms.

Also i only have Pro tools software, no Pro tools hardware.

So my goal is either to use the Roland as a controller...

Or what i would hope for. Is to be able to record with the roland and use protools as an Edit dump.
My Roland outputs are as listed:
Midi
Word Clock
optical
XLR
1/4
and RCA i believe.
Thank you, derek

Well, ProTools uses proprietary hardware to control there software. Meaning I think someone was pulling your leg whent hey told you the VS 2480 could control PT. I am not sure if Roland makes the software for use in the Mac, but I know they have a dump program for PC that allows the VS to dump the proprietary audio format of the VS into the PC as wave format files. I would suggest hitting the Roland site and see what is available for the Mac.

Otherwise the only alternative is to lock the VS to the Mac via the audio clock and sync it up to run the tracks into PT 2 at a time. But seeing as you dont have any PT hardware I would be guessing you have no way to send the timing messages in or out.
