Latency and DXi and SONAR

I'm trying a demo of Kontakt in SONAR 3 and playing a "grand piano" instrument in real time via a midi keybaord. I'm trying to overcome the latency issues in doing this. The Wave profiler sets the latency at 100ms, which I can move the slider down to lower the latency, with some degradation at about 30ms.

Any tips or tricks for using DXi realtime and reducing latency?

I'm using P4 3.0 HT processor, 512 ram, WDM drivers.......wait for it.....SB Live card as MIDI in port (well it's done the job so far!)

Thnaks
Andrew

What drivers are you using in Sonar? Use ASIO, they have the lowest latency and best overall. You're probably using MME which is Windows audio driver which latency is bad with it. Check that, it will be on the next tab over from the one where you change the latency milliseconds I believe.

it may be poor drivers for the SB Midi port as well...it could be latency coming from the MIDI, not the audio...I have had that happen a couple times...

Andrew, what are you using for an audio card. The latency could be coming from that as well. If it is the SB card you probably wont get much better then 30ms. I have had mine down to 13ms, but that was using 3rd party beta drivers and they were not very stable. The standard install windows drivers will allow about 23 at best on mine and the Creative drivers will maybe doa bit better. I would suggest looking at installing drivers from Creative and see if that can get it sussed for ya.

try the KS or KX(not sure for the name) drivers for sb you will be propably able to have a noticeable latency.a friend of mine (with a sb5.1)has 10ms.search your browser...

kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?language=en is I think what leon is talking about, which we have discussed before. There are mixed reports, some peeps have stellar results, some not so good, but regardless, they are surely worth a try.

dB says"it could be latency coming from the MIDI, not the audio"...
then unfortunately you'll have to buy a usb midi cable (5pins)...
or a soundboard with midi I/O(5pins) for at least double price...

m-audio usb cable 43 euro...
e-mu soundcard 24/96 with midi I/O 99euro....
m-audio soundcard 24/96 with midi I/O 110euro....

then you'll have no broblem with latency and multitrack recording
