I've been looking at the JoeMeek stuff, Art etc. I want a mic pre just for vocals,..maybe one with a compressor as well. Something that will add a nice warmth, fatness and clarity to the track, and I don't want to spend more than $500. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Sep 09, 2004 10:38 pm The M-Audio Tampa www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/TAMPA-main.html is a very good unit and I believe can be had for less then $500.00 US. I have only had a short play with it but was impressed. IT is a mic/instrument Pre with a built in dual optical servo compressor. The unit is mono and has both anolg and digital outputs which is a plus in my book for sure. It did have a very analog soudn to it, warm and full, and didnt color the audio, especially the vocals.

Sep 10, 2004 09:29 am Thanks, I will definitely check it out. I was also looking at the Art PRO Channel mic pre/compressor. Looks like a nice unit, and it's tube. I actually don't mind some coloration to the vocals/instuments.
