My family recently purchased one of those digital mixers. I love how centralized the programming is and the clairty of the signal. But, I am having serious static problems when I try to record anything! The worst is when I try to record my piano using a mic. The static is also really bad when I hook up my synthesizer to the line-in on the mixer. With the synthesizer, the static only happens after a note is depressed. It is very annoying! If any of you have any knowledge that may help, please write back. I feel like pulling my hair out.

Sep 04, 2004 04:03 pm sounds like you may be using an un-balanced cable if you are getting a lot of static, or it could be an un-grounded power outlet that you are plugging into with your mixer also. You might want to try picking up a power conditioner from your local music shop to put between the wall outlet and your mixer, and also try using balanced XLR and TRS cables instead of just a regular TS cable. Balanced cables are usually a bit more expensive, but you will be thankful of the audio quality in the long run.
You could also make sure that your cables are not running parallel with any power cords in your room caus sometimes you will get a wicked 60 cycle hum on your cables if they are. If you have the option, try running the cables 90 degrees across the power cord to make a + sign with them and the hum might dissapear.
You might also want to make sure that your pre-amps are not too hot when you record the line in on the mixer. Sometimes an overloaded pre will make a static like that also. :)
Hope this helps and goodluck
