Im new to this channel..I dont know how many Protools LE users there are in here...but there is no USB hub on the MBOX. I had a simple little Midisport 1x1USB interface..Terrible! Made the computer freeze up. What is Recomended. I have a P4 Hewlett 512 Ram 80gig HD and a 25gig. 6 USB 2.0 hubs. Hey! Maybe theres somethin that i can use that can stream a couple more input into the MBOX....You guys are the professionALS..I trust your opinons.

Hey, good to see another PT LE user on the boards. :)

For the MBox, unfortunately Digi did not put in a method of doing midi directly from the Mbox and you are correct that you will need the Midisport or some other form of Midi input into the computer to do Midi.

What I did on my home setup is left the Mbox as is and set up an Aux track. Assign your Aux tracks in's to Channel 1 or 2 on your Mbox, and assign your outs to the normal ones that you would record audio with. Next setup a Midi track in PT and set your in's to all or any available, and assign your outs to the first channel of your midisport. This will allow you to record the midi data and still hear the sounds you are recording if you are recording from an external hardware source. :)

You will need to keep your Midisport plugged into either the computer or a hub. Personally I use a 4 port hub out of one of my USB ports and then run the MBox out of the other as I am running a laptop, but you can always daisychain your hubs also. I would reccomend that your hub is always on "powered" mode where you actually plug in your power source for your hub to an electrical outlet caus you will get some funky things happening with the Midisport if you do not. hehe

Also, you might want to check out duc.digidesign.com which is the Pro Tools user forum. There are a lot of excellent Pro Tools users on there that know exactly what they are doing, and a very detailed search bar that you can use if you have a question and want to find topics about it. :) I can't count how many times between the HRC and the DUC that I have learned something new.

Well, Goodluck and if you have any other questions you're always welcome to drop me an e-mail anytime also. peace

Sounds like a good idea riff god. Unfortunately, ive sent that midisport back because it was causing my computer to glitch and send error report. The guys at the guitar center recomended moto fast lane..Its a little more expensive but if it does cause the error reports then im cool..But, i sopose i can apply that same principle you suggested with the moto...Thanks again Riff God i was confused, MIDI is like hyroglyphics to me.

No prob. :) Actually, I had some slight interesting adventures when I first got my Midisport also caus Microsoft doesn't recognize software from M-Audio as "Microsoft Supported" if you are running Windows XP and I just over rode it in my system pref's on Windows and everything was cool. Pretty much Microsoft gives you those error reports because they don't like the fact you are using something on one of their systems that is not "Microsoft built and certified" lol

If you have any prob's with the new Moto though, feel free to drop me a line and I would be happy to help answer any questions. If you are running windows XP you might want to visit blackviper.com also to see which services you can disable on your system to make it run a bit better or disable the Digi reccomended settings on your computer. Pro Tools will cooperate with you much better with non-nessecary functions disabled on the machine while you are recording. :)

As for hyroglyphics, yeah MIDI is a lot to take on for starters, but once you get the basics there is no turning back. :) Goodluck

Yeah, your right. I wonder how you got the computer to overlook the fact you were using a non microsoft supported item. That probably why i was getting the error reports. preferences huh??? Ok. I wish i still had the thing so i could try it again. BlackViper.com huh? ill swing by and check that thing out man. I believe you are right on point with your diagnosis because i have Microsoft XP Home..You da man riffgod

Thats just a "Microsoft Approved" authentication that WIndows puts in their installer wizard, if it doesn't find that authentication it spits up that error message at you. Many manufactuers don't even try to get that certification because many update their drivers frequently, and paying that amount of money for every single revision would cost a fortune.

I don't even pay attention to that nag screen, it means nothing other than the hardware maker isn't paying the extortion fees.

Yeah, but in all fairness, but Microsoft is no more guilty of a totalitarian hold on their audience than Digidesign and the ProTools platform is...Microsofts audience is just bigger and more diverse.

Now Digidesign is buying M-Audio, which is a drag...

Jay: Yeah, DB is right about it being a licensing agreement thing that MS puts in their installer. I just basically over rode mine and told MS to go to hell on that one honestly. lol

DB: As a PT user, I am actually pretty psyched about the M-Audio deal myself. :) I understand what you mean though about the monopoly of things. I hear Nuendo is starting to come into play though pretty well and is getting a bit competitive with Digi. I actually run PT LE and Cubase SX on my machine to have the best of both worlds at the moment. Whenever I can afford it, I may upgrade to Nuendo down the road also. What do you think of Nuendo so far? :)
