While on my honeymoon in Tampa, my wife and I went to a King Diamond show. This 'band' Nocturne was one of the opening acts and they're using some kind of computer stuff. About 1/2 way thru their set, it crashes. They had to stop for about 15 minutes while they got it going again. The guitars, bass, drums, and vocals were still working, so what's up with that?
I know computers now play an important role in music, but it seems like it's getting a little out of control if a band of 5 or 6 so called 'professionals' is no longer capable of playing when something goes wrong with the PC. Agree or disagree?

Aug 11, 2004 06:34 am Aye..you are right.
This would seem to emphasise the good old adage for most things in life, but ESPECIALLY when using computers/performing live music - ALWAYS HAVE BACKUP!!!
It may be they were using the PC to control the mix or something i.e. routing their sound thru some app for the mixing or applying effects - whatever...either way, they need some form of backup or take the risk of having nowt!

Aug 11, 2004 02:26 pm It does seem like musicianship is taking a back seat to computers. But in all fairness there are some songs that are very sample based; that have alot of pad tones. So depending on the music; it might rely on the samples or softsynths to give the music that powerfull kick. But sometimes the simplicity of good ol' rock n' roll(bass, guitar, drums)is great.
take it easy!
Aug 11, 2004 02:29 pm It depends on the roll that computer plays in regards to the other instruments being played, it could be changing effect patches for them. What I think is lame is that they didn'thave a backup ready at a moments notice...
Aug 11, 2004 04:46 pm Aye..backup backup backup - its a MUST!
I heard aboot some dude who was playing arena gigs over here (I canny find the damn article in the paper - I kept it) with just himself and a laptop for the lot.
Must have been using a sequencer of sorts with full backin, puttin his guitar and vox thru this souped up laptop.
Apparently he rocked...but I guess, he most probs had backup :-) !!
