No S/PDIF on the Delta 44?

Is that true, is sounds like it? I am going to be upgrading sound cards...I was thinking about the Delta but it appears to have no S/PDIF?!?!

I may then be going with the Audiophile 2496...I dunno yet, other thoughts or suggestions anyone? I need S/PDIF I DON'T need a ton of ins and outs and surround sound would be cool, though I have one card that does it already. What do you guys think? If the Audiophile had 4 ins and outs it would be perfect, but it doesn't :-(

Hiya Dan. If memory serves correct, the Delta 66 is the same card as the Delta 44, except the 66 includes SPDIF. Happy hunting, George.

Yes, the 66 does have S/PDIF, and about $100 bigger pricetag, considering I don't need those 2 extra ins and outs...well, seems silly to buy :-(

The Audiophile has exactly what I need for a decent price, I will keep hunting, hopefully I can get something comparable to the 44 with S/PDIF...

Hi Dan. I suspect this dosn't fit your plans at all, but Echo is finally starting to ship the EZBus. Too spendy, and too many ins/outs, but the control surface is suposed to run just about anyone's software. Have fun, George.

ya, I saw that, spending that much is tempting, but Echo, though they make a GREAT product, really is kind of annoying me with the system requirements and the slow development process of their drivers. But, fair point, it looks like a great product.

M-Audio seems to keep up much better with driver development and new OS's and such...plus their pricepoint is better. If you use Steinberg apps (which I know you do) and you have an Intel system from top to bottm (which you have as well, and me too) Echo is the greatest. But I don't use Steinberg anymore (at least not Cubase) so Echo doesn't have the same pull with me anymore...

And my surround sound card has S/PDIF, I am just now trying to find out what the bit-rate capability of it is, I don't recall from when I bought it cuz it didn't matter...

honestly.. id go with an omni studio.. you get the 4ins/4outs of the delta 66 with a couple midi jacks and s/pdif support.

and this is really something that i just now thought of the other day myself.. with the midi ports.. you can sync fruityloops up to an external piece of hardware and actually play the synth programs instead of just programming the softsynths.

Hi Collapse. Yeah, I play my LM4 with my keyboard. I kinda drag each note into position afterwords, rather than hitting quanitize. I think it sounds a little more "real". Later, George.

Hey dB, I had the same thought as collapse after we talked today. The Omni would be a good choice as it will still have the breakout box. I believe the Audiophile only break's out with short cable's with jack's.

Well thanks everyone, but I am still leaning toward the Audiophile for a few reasons:

MIDI means exactly nothing to me

breakout box really doesn't matter, and I would almost prefer NOT to have one since I hook up the thing once and rarely touch it after that, everything else is done at the mixer so the breakout box just hogs more desk space.

It has good S/PDIF and good A/D and D/A convertors (though I still work at 16 bit, it's nice to be able to have more if I want to)

It's got digital 5.1 output for when I upgrade my surround system

The price is tough to beat.

However, I am not done looking yet...

Originally I thought I was gonna go for the Delta DiO 2496, but then I find it has no real A/D convertors, so I am back to the Audiophile 2496, it has everything I need...and a great price. The reviews are great everywhere I looked...I dunno, this is a tough call, luckily it is not something I have to do immediately...
