i'm trying to make my home recording studio able to be used in a live setting. i have the mixer and mics and rack gear and all that. i just need to figure out how to make it audible. and i have VERY little money to make this happen!

1. get a small power amp and a pair of speakers

2. purchase a cheap PA system and plug main outs from my mixer to the power mixer included

3. purchase a audio/video reciever (like for a home theatre) and use it to power some 100W PA speakers. then plug my main outs from mixer into the reciever. (i dont even know if this is a possibility but it would be nice.

Are these good ideas? is there a better one?

I just dont know enough about this stuff to know what is the best bet for as little money as possible. i'm talking total ~$200 on ebay.

I guess my first question is how big of a room do you plan on powering with this PA. I would surely NOT recommend using a reciever for this. A poweramp would be in your best interest.

100W is pretty small I would say...

Someone once told me as a rough rule of thumb, you're good for very roughly 5w per head?? So..youd be playin some way small gigs for a 100w set of spkrs...

Good luck tho. I plan on doin something similar when I get done recording ma cd.
