okay....say for instance...this is my setup...

-(1) MOTU HD192...
- Random Mics
- Random Outboard Gear
- 100 ft. snake

and here goes the questions....

okay...im gonna run 12 XLR mics into the MOTU...so far so good...plug an XLR into the mic...then into the snake...then plug the corresponding jack of the snake into the XLR inputs on the MOTU...thats the easy part...

- how do i put an outboard effects unit (EQ, reverb, compressor, etc.) into this signal chain without having to run behind my gear rack and do it...the only solution i have leads me to my next problem

- do they make XLR patchbays?

I've never heard of one, however you should be able to hook all that stuf up with 1/4" cables...

you're forgetting the preamp stage...some of the MOTU units have a couple preamps in the front to plug into, but try getting an XLR->1/4" adapter going into one of the normal inputs (line level), then plugging in a mic. if you hear anything at all, it will be too ridiculously quiet to use.

you need preamps or a mixer, which typically have 1/4" outputs (either balanced or unbalanced). then you can use a patchbay or just plug in straight if you want.
