Hey there. I'm getting very close to finally collecting the equipment for my studio. I've compiled a list that I'd for all you to look over. If I'm missing anything, let me know. If you have any alternative choices (besides Pro Tools, the Blue Mic, and the Alesis, I've already Purchased those), feel free to let me know.

Here goes.......

- Digi002 Pro Tools System
- Baby Blue Bottle Cardoid Condensor Mic
- Blue Bottle Shockmount & Filter
- Shure sm57 vocal/instrument mic (2)
- Alesis 3630 Compressor/Gate
- Digitech Vocalist VR
- Aphex 207 2-Channel Tube Mic preamplifier
- Event 20/20 Passive Monitor System
- CP8506 4CH Phantom Power (2)
- Tama Starclassic Performer Fusion 5-Piece Kit
- Nady DMK7 7-Piece Drum Mic Package
- s-100 XLR Microphone cable
- Studio Snake Cable
- All the other handful of cables I'll need.

Am I missing anything? Got any alternatives. I'll aprreciate any input. After this post, I'll also start asking about cables and set-up, but for now, I just need some opinions. Thanks.

ive been doing this 4 years, and youve got about 10 times the gear i have, so thats a good start!

only thing i might recomend is an sm58 to go with the 57s...better for vocals, but not a necessity by any means

nice set up man!

Hey thanks. I'll look into that. The reason why my list is so extensive is because I've been investing in this for a loooooong time. A lot of my friends have studios, so I was given the opporitunity at a young age to explore and learn about different equipment. I decided to finally build one, and through my friends, I had a lot of resources to get gear on the cheap. Some of the stuff I'm getting used, some of it I'm getting from friends, and the rest I'm carefully budgeting. But again, thanks for your reply.

bENNY!!!
I only know 2 things about your setup, first the 207 RAWKS!!!
Great choice, I have had one for about a year now.
The other thing, grab an Aphex 108 comp. or the dbx, stay away from the Alesis comp.
I just got a $2000 Manley (Langevin) mic pre from manleylabs, its very very uptown, but in my tests in the last few days, the 207 is hangin with it FAR better than I thought it would.

You'll need something to power the monitors. I've been looking at the alesis for that.

it's costing a handful of thousands, i'm sure of that. I wouldn't have nearly this much equipment if it weren't for The Starving Musician (a magnificent used and new gear shop by where i live) , and all my friends giving me thier old stuff (a friend of mine is giving me the Aphex because he's gonna buy an Avalon).

The aphex rules man, and Wayne at Aphex was tellin me about a few studios they visited, that were using much higher dollar preamps, and they switched to the 207 after some shootouts.

One of them still has the UA pre that they have "on" with the Aphex hidden, but being used instead.

He said it was a bittersweet victory.

I have a MAnley DVC pre, but I still use the 207 for instruments, it really is that good....

Hey, sounds sweet. If you've already bought the 3630, it's a good unit. I bought a Behringer Composer about the time my roommate bought a 3630 so I was able to compare 'em. I liked the features of the Behringer better because it had more meters, and I was new to compression and I needed all the visual aid I could get. As for sound quality, they seemed comparable at the time (8 years ago). If you're new to compression, the Behringer is easier to use. That's just my opinion tho. You're gonna have fun either way! Later.
