are there any Acid 4.0 users out there that can give me some tips on recording vocals? my vocals just never sound right. they're either too loud or not loud enough. I want a professional sound, but, i dont know, the mix is just always off. i need consistancy. any tips for levels and settings?

Hi There

I dont use the Acid app but I can maybe offer some advice thats fairly generic to all recordings/mixes.

First off, check out the articles section on this here fine site - some good stuff to be found there. I think when I started out I printed off the lot and read it all over - many good tips.

Also, a big factor and mistake I made when I started mixing was going for volume rather than blend. What I mean is, I used to dump my vocals on "top" of the music making it fake. The key to this is EQ. You can EQ vocals in such a way so the volume is conistent with all the instruments in the mix but the frequencies that NEED it are boosted by the EQ.

This way, the whole track isnt dumped on top and just the frequencies you need are boosted.

You can also use compression to smooth vocals and raise the quiet parts/lower the excess which gives the impression of more volume without touching the volume slider...

All this, and more, is covered in the articles section so I wont bang on too much here - I would recommend a good look tho. I learned a lot aboot mixing from these articles.

Im sure others will offer you some good advice too - this is a great site for good advice.

Anyways..good luck.

Coco.
