Delta 44 / MX802A / BX8 Setup

First off Hi all.

Seems to be some great threads going here. I especially liked the one about modifying the MX802 so you get 4 outs to a Delta 44.

Anyway I have just purchased apair of MAudio BX8 powered monitors (yes they rock). I also have a Delta 44 and a Behringer MX802A mixer.

Can someone please provide some advice on the best Tracking / Monitoring setup that does not involve unplugging anything. I am sure int involves switching between 2TK to Control Room and 2 Track to Mix but I have not been able to figure it out in an elegant way.

Thanks

James

I found a thread elsewhere in the forum that seams to solve my problems.

However can someone answer a question about the phones input on the MX802A. If I plug my phones in should this disable the CTRL R Outs.

I ask because the CTRL's out run to my powered monitors. If I am recording with a mic I do not want toget any bleed from the monitors. Previously I could just turn the speakers off on my amp. I don't want to have to do this with the Powered monitors.

Thanks

James

the PHONES output and the CTRL ROOM outputs are controlled by the same volume knob. plugging in phones will NOT cut off the CTRL ROOM outputs, and vice versa. just unplug the CTRL ROOM outputs when tracking.

yeah get some 1/4" to RCA adapters and run the outputs of the delta 44 to the TAPE INS on the board. then the 2TK TO CTRL ROOM button will allow you to hear whatever is coming out of the computer in your headphones while the stuff going INTO the computer from the mixer still goes uninterrupted. if you want to hear yourself playing in your headphones too, play with the delta 44's software mixer. enjoy.

ta,

Did you write the explanation of changing aux 2 to post fade?

I don't like the idea of unplugging the CTRL R outs when I am tracking (pops in the speaker and such).

Would you know how to modify the phone jack so that it did disable the CTRL R outs when it was plugged in. Hard core I know.

Conversely are you awre of any cheap devices that icould pass through on the way to the speakers that would effectively turn them down. Obviously when they are turned up it would preferable that the device did not alter the sound in any way.

yes i wrote that explanation.

i wouldn't know at the moment how to modify the phone jacks.

as for volume control, i guess you could hook it up to a stereo volume control unit. ernie ball makes a pedal that you can put on the floor and play with...it's called the:
6165 Stereo Volume/Pan Pedal

if you're a little more ambitious and want to operate on a smaller budget, you can learn to do some simple soldering and electronics and make a tiny box you can put next to your mixer with a knob or a kill switch even. good luck!

What if you connect the tape outs (using an rca to 1/4 adapter)of the MX802A to the inputs of your BX8's??

then they're controlled by the MAIN MIX knob, which renders the aux 2 mod ineffective, since you need the MAIN L and R outputs for two of the four channels.

you could use the aux sends for monitor sends, that way you get no bleed because you can turn down the sends with the wee little knobs.

i pretty much have the same equipment that you have and i had this problem as well.

if you take the outs 1-2 from delta and stick them into two seperate tracks on the mixer then pan them, first aux 1, second aux 2. i dont know how comfortable you are using the aux sends but i've never heard anything bad about using them as monitor sends.
