hi all!

i use a korg d1600 recorder and i´m currently mixing some of my bands stuff. maybe it will turn out to be an EP or what not.
i´m mixing with my home stereo speakers and i am aware of the problems i have doing this. i need to get around to other speakers to hear what they sound like too and sometimes there is a huge difference.

so, can i mix with good reference head phones? i cant say i like the thought but maybe it works. are frequencies really true in head phones, or do i miss alot?

have you tried?

thanks peter

Agreed, very good article. But to answer the origional question, yes you can mix with just headphones and stereo speakers, but your mixes would most likely be a lot better with monitors. I use four sets of stereo speakers on all of my masters to check the translation to home stereo equipment. One set in the studio, bose, one set in the living room, sony, a boom box, and the car stereo. They are all average speaker systems and give me a pretty good cross section of what the master will sound like to most folks. That is often the real bottom line. If Johnny Anybody from anywhere plays the tune on whatever, will he like it?

i agree with walt. i like mixing on my monitors and afterwards i give it the bump test before i release it. bump test=playing it on several different stereos and making sure it sounds good on all of them.
